Shelley Saxton-Cooper stabbed to death before husband was found dead after blaze

A 45-year-old woman was stabbed to death before her house was destroyed by an explosion, police said.

Officers are treating the death of Shelley Saxton-Cooper as murder after fire tore through their house where husband Simon Saxton-Cooper was also found dead.

Detectives said are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Mr Saxton-Cooper, 50, died from smoke inhalation after the fire on Sunday morning, Derbyshire Police said.

The cause of the blaze at the house on Valley View Road, Riddings, is not yet known and the police and fire service are conducting an ongoing investigation.

A report into the deaths is being compiled for the coroner.
