Mum dies after cardiac arrest on fairground ride with two children

A woman has died after suffering a cardiac arrest while on a fairground ride with her two children in Birmingham.

Emergency services were called to the Robert Wilkinson fair at the Sheldon Country Park just before 5pm on Sunday after Lianne Harris collapsed.

First aiders managed to revive Lianne twice, but she sadly died a short time later at Heartlands Hospital.

Owner Robert Wilkinson, who has been operating fun fairs for 27 years, said everybody was heartbroken by the tragedy.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, he said: "I just don't know what to say, it just doesn't seem real.

"Those young children came to the fair with their mum to have fun and they left without her. It's just heartbreaking.

"We are all completely devastated, but I'm so proud of our volunteer first aiders Shaun, Abi and Jason who are from the Big Top project. They may be thinking they failed, but they did not fail last night, they were heroes.

"They brought her back twice and the paramedics said later that they did a marvellous job. They told us that the first aiders had given her a fighting chance, but sadly she has died.

"It's just heartbreaking for all of us."

The Mirror reports that Lianne had been on the ride for just 15 seconds when she slumped over.

The ride was immediately stopped and first aiders worked on her.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service told ITV News: "We were called to reports of a woman in cardiac arrest at the park.

"On arrival crews performed CPR and the patient, a woman in her 30s, was transferred to Heartlands Hospital."
