Mother accused of Syria child abduction wears hijab in court

A woman accused of trying to travel to Syria with her four children has appeared in court wearing a hijab.

The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was detained in Turkey after her family went missing from their home in north-east London.

Wearing a black hijab, she appeared at London's Southwark Crown Courtvia video-link from Holloway Prison, accused of child abduction.

She spoke only to confirm her name and looked relaxed as she sat in front of a blue screen for the brief hearing.

She is charged with taking four children under the age of 16 out of the UK without the appropriate consent on August 25.

She was questioned by police after returning to Britain and held at Luton Airport.

She was remanded in custody to appear for a plea and case management hearing at Southwark Crown Court on November 16.
