Updated

A woman has been left with potentially life-threatening injuries after being involved in a hit-and-run with a taxi.

Greater Manchester Police said the 22-year-old suffered serious head injuries following the crash on Chester Street, in Manchester city centre, at around 4.45am today.

Witnesses said a black cab involved in the collision did not remain at the scene. The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Pc Paul Hailwood said: "We are still establishing exactly what happened with this collision and we are keen to speak to the driver of the black cab taxi that was involved.

"It is possible that the driver didn't know the seriousness of the collision or the woman's injuries before they drove off but we would like to speak with them and get their account of what happened.

"If you are the driver or if you witnessed the collision and have information then I would like to urge you to please contact the police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
