Today marks the beginning of British Food Fortnight (19 September - 4 October), an event that promises to be the "biggest annual, national celebration of British food and drink".

The festival hopes to promote the benefits buying and eating products that have been made in Britain.

So, to celebrate British Food Fortnight we've decided to take a look at some of the best restaurants in the UK. Using TripAdvisor'sTraveller's Choice Awards we've narrowed down the UK's top three eateries from the top ten restaurants in the world.

Midsummer House in Cambridge made it onto the list in second place this year. This historic Victorian villa on the banks of the River Cam offers a hive of gourmet pleasures all year round.

The restaurant has a choice of five, seven and 10 course menus with dishes, including glazed duck breast, roast quail and a celery and watercress bavarois. Midsummer House also boasts two Michelin stars - the first was given in 2002, closely followed by another in 2005.

Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons in Oxfordshire is the second UK restaurant to make it into the top 10, landing at number eight in this year's ranking.

The restaurant boasts a two acre kitchen-garden which means not only are the ingredients fresh, but they're grown locally. Meals at the decadent restaurant include confit of salmon, braised fillet of Cornish turbot and new season spring lamb.

The third UK restaurant to make it into the top 10 is London'sLe Gavroche. Le Gavroche was the first UK restaurant to be granted one, two and three Michelin stars. The restaurant is run by celebrity chef Michel Roux Jr who took over from his father in 1991. Dishes at the popular London establishment include roast saddle of rabbit, saute lobster and grilled filet of Scottish beef.
