None of us are perfect. We have our sensible side that takes care of our loved ones, plans ahead for every eventuality and puts safety first. Then we have the other side, which occasionally wants to get a rest from all that thinking and planning, and put their feet up with a DVD or a beer. This week we have the freebies to suit both sides - from free life insurance and smoke alarms to a free pint of beer.

Free life insurance
Users of HotUKdeals.com have spotted that parents with children under the age of 4 can get a year's worth of life cover for free - from Aviva. It's not an earth-shattering sum, because if you were to die it would only pay out £15,000, so it's important to check you have enough cover for your needs. However, it's definitely a start, and the insurer promises there are absolutely no strings attached.

Free fire safety check
If you contact your local fire service, you'll be able to set up a free fire safety check. An officer will visit you at home, and talk to you about fire prevention and safety. They can help you plan an emergency escape route in the event of a fire, and will check your smoke alarms are working. They will also move any alarms that aren't in the right place, and replace any that no longer work. It's a brilliant freebie that could save your life.

Free MOT
This is a freebie with a number of caveats. If you take out a car loan with Lloyds TSB, it'll throw in a free MOT for every year of the loan. It's not to be sniffed at, because it'll save you up to £54.85 a year. However, it doesn't mean you should pick the loan on the basis of the freebie. Before you borrow any money it's always worth considering all your options, and if you decide you need a loan you should hunt around for the best available deal. If that turns out to be a TSB loan, then it's a nice little extra.

Free Fast & Furious DVD
New users of Topcashback.co.uk can get a free copy of Fast & Furious 7 from Amazon. You just sign up at the website for free, click through to the new member deal, then click through to Amazon and buy the DVD. Cashback up to the value of £10 will be in your cashback account within seven days, and can be withdrawn after 14 days.
