Though she wasn't giving financial advice, Jessica Simpson recently called her first marriage her biggest financial blunder.

On Thursday's 'Closing Bell' on CNBC, the singer and fashion mogul told Kelly Evans her memorable marriage to Nick Lachey did not work out too well financially.

Although the songstress she didn't have much to say, Simpson stated for some reason her first marriage came to mind when asked about her biggest money mistake.

It also appears that Simpson has decided to leave the management of her money up to other people.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Simpson said: "I don't always know where all of my money is, but there are people that I love that know where all my money is."

The popstar couple starred together on Newlyweds, a reality TV programme that followed them through their daily lives.

Although Lachey was reportedly worth more than Simpson when they got married, by the time the pair reached their divorce, Simpson was worth substantially more.

Lachey made his fortune as the lead singer of boyband, 98 Degrees, but his dwindling singing career is thought to have left him worth $5 million while Simpson had notched up a $35 million dollar fortune.

The couple never signed a pre-nup and according to California State Law, couples must split their assets evenly.

It was never made clear precisely how much they took away from the split, but it's believed that Lachey settled for less than half. Both Lachey and Simpson have since remarried.
