A British family were forced to sleep on a beach after being thrown out of a hotel while on holiday in Gran Canaria.

Annmarie Alders woke up on the beach on her 40th birthday after being thrown out, along with her partner Steve Cawley, and their two sons, Kayne and Calum, from previous relationships.

She said they were thrown out of San Augustin's Hotel Folias after the two sons got into a fight with each other, reports the Mirror.

They had only been at the hotel for two nights before being asked to leave. The family had paid £1,300 for the trip, which they booked through Teletext Holidays.

Annmarie said her bag with her holiday money and travel documents was still inside the hotel when they were chucked out.

She says her son Calum has Aspergers, and was not responding from inside his room after the fight, so her partner tried to force the door in to check he was ok, after which, she added, "the hotel kicked us out".

Speaking to Wales Online, Annmarie said: "We were sat outside on the steps and they phoned the police to move us on.

"We were sat there with our suitcases wondering what to do because we had no rep to speak to.

"We were just traumatised by it all."

She was told by Teletext Holidays that there would be a charge of £450 to fly them home early, to which Annmarie said she was "horrified".

After one night on the beach, the family moved to another hotel with the assistance of the Foreign Office and help from relatives at home.

According to the Metro, Elena Quintana, the manager of Hotel Folias, said: "We had a problem with the family – they spent only two days here and I had to speak to them three times.

"They were drinking on the first night and were shouting in the swimming pool until 3am. We said to them that the next time, they must leave the hotel.

"I had a lot of complaints from my other guests about their attitude."
