14 Brits kicked off Glasgow-Tenerife flight after salt prank

A group of 14 British men have been banned for life from Jet2 after their "disruptive behaviour" reportedly forced a Glasgow to Tenerife flight to divert to Portugal.

The Mirror reports that the incident was started after one of the group stuffed a bag of salt in his friend's luggage for a joke.

Cabin crew spotted the suspicious bag mid-flight, and were immediately concerned it was drugs.

The airline said the plane diverted to Faro after the group became aggressive and verbally abusive, something the men deny.

Police boarded the plane in Faro and escorted the men to the terminal.

Fellow passenger Laura Anne Gilgis told the Mirror: "If the bag of salt was such a concern then it should've been spotted well before the flight boarded.

"I was on this flight and the boys were not causing any havoc whatsoever."

The boys decided to stay in Portugal for the week instead of attempting to continue on to Tenerife.

A Jet2 spokeswoman told the Daily Mail: "The Glasgow to Tenerife flight diverted to Faro on Friday evening so the airline could offload a group of 14 disruptive passengers.

"Their behaviour towards the cabin crew got so aggressive and verbally abusive that the captain made the immediate decision to divert for the safety of both his team and the other customers."

According to the Metro, she added: "The group were escorted off the aircraft by police in Faro and the flight continued on to Tenerife.

"Jet2.com has issued all 14 passengers with lifetime bans and is working closely with the authorities, who are investigating the incident."
