Britain could enjoy a mini 'Indian Summer' next week as temperatures hit a balmy 24C.

After a week of unseasonably cold weather, which saw freak hailstorms in Birmingham and even snow on high ground in Scotland, Britain is set for a brief respite.

Brian Gaze, at the Weather Outlook, predicts the warmest days next week will be Thursday and Friday, saying: "Monday morning brings sunny spells but cloud builds through the day and in the east there may be some light and showery rain.

"Parts of the west and south west probably remain brighter and this is where the highest temperatures are expected.

"Tuesday and Wednesday bring more of the same but high pressure becomes centred farther east, allowing warmer air to gradually begin filtering in from the continent.

"The reservoir of heat which was over France for much of the summer has now dissipated but, despite this, temperatures in southern and central Britain could reach a warm 24C (75F) on Thursday and Friday.

"The warmer conditions perhaps extend northwards into Scotland for a time allowing temperatures to climb towards 21C (70F)."

According to Leon Brown at The Weather Channel, we should enjoy this week of warmer weather as it won't last. He told Aol Travel: "It will be warmer by Thursday and Friday and in the low 20s over central and southern Britain.

"There will be a breakdown in the weather pattern starting next weekend with the risk of some rain reaching the west, then everywhere unsettled, wetter and windier from the 14th September."
