The moment an angry elephant attacked a safari truck full of terrified passengers has been caught on camera.

The scene was filmed by a passenger on the vehicle, which was taking tourists on safari in Hwange, Zimbabwe.

The passengers can be heard screaming as the elephant charges towards the truck before attacking it.

According to News24, the video was first uploaded to Vimeo by Kid_GoPro, with the caption: "Safari truck charged by African bull elephant and turned 180 degrees, piercing the tyre.

"The back end is then lifted onto two wheels, its tusk breaking through the metal like butter, narrowly missing a passengers leg!

"No one was harmed but the safari truck sure took a beating."

The news comes just a week after an elephant in Thailand gored its handler to death before running off into the jungle with three tourists on its back.

Back in January, a wild elephant caused panic when it rammed a car in the Khao Yai National Park near Bangkok, Thailand.

Park chief Kanchit Srinoppawan said the aggressive behaviour was the result of the mating season.

In December last year, a totally different kind of elephant charging took place when an adorable baby elephant tried his hand at scaring off a bus load of tourists - before running back to mum.
