Thomas Cook flight to Turkey diverts over "disruptive female passenger"

A flight travelling from Newcastle to Dalaman in Turkey had to be diverted on Sunday night because of a 'disruptive' female passenger.

The woman, who was reportedly inebriated, "kicked doors and windows" and caused such a problem that the pilot decided to divert the flight to Sofia in Bulgaria.

Bulgarian police boarded the plane upon arrival and removed the passenger.

The Mirror reports that passengers took to social media to share news of the scene.

One wrote: "Had to make an emergency landing in Bulgaria as some lass went mental and started kicking doors and windows on the flight last night."

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle reports that another passenger said: "Delayed by 1.5 hours on the flight outbound due to a lass going absolutely raj. She got chucked out at Sofia in Bulgaria."

According to the Shields Gazette, a spokesman for Thomas Cook Airlines said: "Due to an extremely disruptive passenger, the pilot made the decision to divert to Sofia.

"It is very rare that this happens. However, it was deemed by the crew to be the necessary thing to do at the time.

"The plane was met by Bulgarian police and the woman, along with her partner who was not involved in the disruption, were escorted from the plane."
