The moment an American weatherman freaked out when a large insect flew towards him was filmed during a live TV broadcast.

Fox 5 San Diego's Brad Willis didn't know the camera was rolling when he let out a shriek as the bug flew into his face on San Diego beach.

"What is that?" he screamed, before adding: "Because it's hot outside stuff like that happens."

After his meltdown Willis asked: "Was that live? Are we live? Oh brother."

It's not the first time a TV report didn't go according to plan. In 2013, the bizarre moment a presenter passed out on live TV and immediately got up to carry on with a report about cross-country skiing went viral.

Brooke Graham, a reporter for KUTV-TV, was interviewing a skier when she suddenly passed out. Seconds later she got up and continued the interview.

In her blog, Graham wrote: "I am known to faint any time I am in high altitudes and get too cold.

"I could feel myself getting light headed and tried to warn the producer that I was sick."

"After I went down I sat up and had no idea how long I had been out but saw the camera pointed at my face and decided to keep talking."

The TV channel said: "KUTV Reporter Brooke Graham works six days a week and is one of our hardest workers. She is doing fine following this instance and has given us permission to post the video on her behalf."
