Two men killed after car hits bridge on A74

Two young men were killed when their car hit a motorway bridge.

The accident happened on the A74 at Gretna in Dumfries and Galloway at around 6am.

The men, aged 21 and 22, are understood to be from Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Police said their car collided with the column of a bridge on the southbound A74 close to junction 21.

The road was closed temporarily and has since reopened.

Police Sergeant Leigh McCulloch said: "Specialist officers continue to progress the inquiry to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

"I would ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact the road policing unit at Lockerbie via the 101 number with any information they may have."
