British police sent to Spanish party resort Magaluf have been pictured posing for selfies with holidaymakers and swimming in the sea.

West Midlands Police officers Pc Martina Anderson and Sergeant Brett Williams were sent to Magaluf to help Spain's Guardia Civil.

They were seen patrolling the popular Punta Ballena strip, the beaches and the airport to help victims of crime and deal with rowdy tourists.

But staff at bars and clubs have complained that the officers are working at the wrong time of day.

The officers arrived in the Majorcan resort on Monday and work between 7am and 10pm.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Anna Nicholas said: "Having only two policemen covering two major resorts in two weeks between 7am and 10pm isn't going to make much difference in my opinion. Most of the problems begin after 10pm in both resorts."

Holidaymaker Cathie Wood, from Nottingham, told the Daily Record: "People don't even get out of their beds until midnight to come out and party. Where are they when they are partying and the trouble's kicking off?"

The officers will move on to San Antonio in Ibiza next.

In June, Magaluf brought in new rules to clean up its drunken image.

Tourists were told to cover up in the streets and anyone caught spitting, urinating or defecating in the streets will face harsh fines.

The 'balconing' craze, which sees people jump from their balconies into swimming pools, has also been banned. Those caught can be fined up to 1,500 euros.

Spanish police were given the power to stop groups drinking in the streets between 10pm and 8am.
