It's always hard to remember to pack all your essentials for a holiday, but there are some things you should never forget... like your children.

But one family managed to drive 150km (93 miles) before realising they'd left their three-year-old daughter in a motorway layby.

The family, from France, were on their way to the French Riviera for a holiday, and only noticed that they'd left their precious cargo behind when they heard an alert on the radio.

According to France 24, the little girl was found by fellow holidaymakers in on the A7 Autoroute du Soleil near Loriol.

A French policeman told AFP that the child had been able to tell them she had a brother and sister and that they were on their way to the seaside when she saw "daddy's car pull away".

The child's parents had been driving for 45 minutes when they heard the alert, called the police and turned around.

The gendarme officer said: "The family had passed Aix-en-Provence (150 kilometres away) and were going towards Saint-Raphael and none of them had noticed she wasn't there."

"We are going to listen to what they have to say and talk to the prosecutor at Valence to see if this should be taken further."

According to the Guardian, the parents were questioned by French police last night (Sunday).
