A new study has revealed that Greggs is the best eatery in the country - from an employee's point of view. The researchers used anonymous ratings from staff themselves to compile the top ten best restaurants to work for in the country, and the purveyor of pasties and sausage rolls came top. It was followed by Pizza Hut and Nando's.

The study, by Glassdoor, used the ratings that employees input to its website. Greggs came out on top as 77% of users said they would recommend the place to a friend, and 92% said they approved of what the CEO was trying to achieve. Only 69% said the business outlook of the company was positive. However, given that it saw a 51% rise in profits for the first half of the year, there's a good chance that the outlook holds reasonably good news.

The ratings are often accompanied by comments. The staff comments on the top employers reveal the four things people consider important when working for restaurants and bars.

Priorities

1. Pay
While money isn't the only thing that marks out a good place to work, many of those leaving comments pointed out that at Greggs, the money is good for the industry. One highlighted that staff earn a "decent wage from £6.90 during training to £7.11 after training" Pizza Hut staff also mentioned the 'good pay'.

2. The environment
Working conditions were also on the agenda. Greggs received positive feedback for its promotional opportunities, while one Pizza Hut staff member said: "If you cannot work a certain day, providing you give enough notice in advance, it is very easy to get the shift covered."

3. The team
Staff place an enormous amount of emphasis on the team spirit, and all three of the top companies received great feedback about their colleagues. One Greggs team member highlighted the "great, positive atmosphere", while a waitress in Pizza Hut said: "Shift work cannot be more fun than at Pizza Hut!" and a Nando's staff member said "Great place, great company, great people."

4. The food
While none of the top three are known as fine dining establishments, if you like the food - it's a brilliant bonus. Greggs employees praise the staff discount on food, while at Nando's, one staff member raved: "You get a free Nando's every day you work!"
