McDonalds to offer table service

It's the moment we've all been waiting for! The fast food giant McDonalds is to offer table service for the first time in the UK in an attempt to beat its burger rivals.

McAwesome.

Diners who fancy a more laid-back luncheon will have the option of placing their order with a staff member carrying a tablet computer or direct through a digital kiosk at the table.

The burger chain is trialling the service at its branch in Mottram, Greater Manchester, and will extend it to 11 more across the UK this month.

If they find people are McLovin' it (sorry), they get good feedback (sorry again), and customers report they've had a happy meal (shoot me) they'll roll out the service nationally!

A McDonald's spokesman said: "We have listened to customer feedback and to meet their evolving expectations we are significantly investing in our restaurants to create an exciting new environment and improve the customer experience.

"We are testing some new concepts, such as table service, whereby customers place their order via our new digital kiosks and then have their food brought to them."

But if all you want is to get your food and scram, you'll still be able to order at the till like normal.

The UK is following in the footsteps of France, Germany and Australia, where McDonald's already delivers table service.

It's thought the move is an attempt to ward off competition from upmarket rivals such as GBK and Byron's.

We wonder what the decor will be like.

We're imagining candlelit booths. The tinkle of ambient music softly complimenting the waft of delicate hamburger-y flavours. Attentive waiters on hand to ensure diners' every whim is catered to.

Maybe there will even be plates. OK, OK. Plates is probably taking it too far.

But really, there's no reason not pop along for Valentines Day now.

Bon appetit.
