These Are The Most Dangerous Destinations

The World Economic Forum has compiled the rankings of 141 nations to come up with some of the most dangerous destinations in the world.

According to the list, Nigeria is the most dangerous place to visit, coming in last place in this year's rankings. The reasons for this include violence and terrorism with groups like Boko Haram running riot in various parts of the country.

Colombia also makes its way on to the list thanks to its high levels of terrorism, crime and violence. But, the country ranked higher as an overall tourist destination as a result of its liberal visa policies and its cultural vibrancy, however its incredibly low safety rankings should not be forgotten.

Instability in Yemen and Pakistan means that they both make this year's list especially given the presence of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Murder rates in Venezuela are through the roof with nearly 25,000 in 2014 alone and foreigners are often a frequent target for crime. The South American country has the second highest murder rate in the world.

Even popular tourist destination and Olympic Games host Brazil raised major red flags in the survey for safety and security. Growth in major cities as a result of the World Cup and Olympics has left a lot of the population behind, resulting in exploding crime rates in certain areas.

So, if you're planning a trip in the future, make sure you're armed with all the information you need before making a decision.

Take advice from government websites such as the Foreign Office and keep an eye out for any travel alerts regarding the country you're travelling to.
