Why is George Clooney considering selling up?

George Clooney is said to be considering selling some of the stars of his huge property portfolio. Naughtygossip.com has claimed that Clooney is considering whether or not to sell his stunning villa on Lake Como. He is also said to be weighing up whether or not to sell his house in Mexico.

The sales could net him a small fortune. The website claims that Villa Oleandra, his 18th century Lake Como villa, could be worth $100 million.

It's worth stressing that despite the fact this has been reported extensively, at the moment these are merely unconfirmed rumours. Those behind the rumours have also suggested a number of reasons for the sales. Some have highlighted that the Italian villa is not well protected from the paparazzi, so Clooney may be selling up in order to buy somewhere else in Italy that's more secluded.

Others suggest that he may be slimming down his property portfolio because he recently bought a nine-bedroom home in a small Berkshire village with his wife Amal. The couple are expected to spend more time in the UK in future, as this is where Amal's high-flying legal career is based.

The Hollywood star is also expected to keep his home in Los Angeles too, so he's unlikely to be short of places to lay his hat.
Celebrity property

He's not the only celebrity with a property on the market at the moment. If a $100 million Italian villa is a bit beyond your budget, there are a few marginally cheaper celebrity homes to have made a stir in the property market over the past few weeks.

The penthouse at Wellington Court - next door to the notoriously pricey One Hyde Park - is on the market. Between 2012 and 2015 it was owned by Pinewood Studios and used by its most important stars while they were filming in London. Celebrities who have stayed in the property include Rhianna and Tom Cruise, and it could be yours for £35 million.

If you are looking for a bit more space, Johnny Depp is said to have put his French village on the market for $25.76 million. He bought the entire French village 17 miles north of St Tropez in 2001, and has spent millions renovating the buildings. Among the more unusual features are the pirate-themed wine cellar and a skateboard park.

Alternatively, if you've had your eye on Bob Hope's Toluca Lake estate, this could be your time to strike, because the price has been dropped from the original asking price of $23 million in 2013 to just $12 million.

And if you're on a budget (albeit a huge one), then for just $9.5 million you could get your hands on Roberta Flack's Dakota apartment. The building itself has also been home to a number of famous faces over the years - from John Lennon to Lauren Bacall. Bacall's former apartment is also on the market for $23 million.
