A British woman has died in a quad bike accident on a beach in Queensland, Australia.

The Courier Mail reports that the 21-year-old woman was driving the quad bike along One Mile Beach in Port Stewart, near Coen, at about 3pm when it hit a stream of water, lost traction and rolled.

A 37-year-old male passenger also on the bike at the time was unharmed.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The unidentified woman's next of kin has been notified and investigations will continue into the accident, reports the Daily Mail.

Back in February 2014, a British man was killed after his quad bike was hit by a truck in Australia.

Scott Thompson, 27, a former soldier from Nelson in Lancashire, had been travelling the world with his girlfriend Sami Allott, also 27.

Police said he was hit when he pulled out into the path of the lorry near Bungador, Victoria, where he had been working on a farm.
