Magdalena Luczak, who starved and murdered her four-year-old son Daniel Pelka has died in prison, it's been reported.

Luczak and the boy's stepfather Mariusz Krezolek were both sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison for their part in Daniel's death.

The 29-year-old mother died in her cell at HMP Foston Hall Prison, a statement from the Ministry of Justice said.

Daniel, whose eighth birthday would have fallen on 15th July, was starved and beaten by both Luczak and Krezolek, before dying of a blow to the head in 2012.

According to the BBC, he was also regularly denied food, forced to perform punishment exercises, confined in a locked box room, poisoned with salt, and subjected to water torture.

He was said to weigh just a stone and a half (10 kg) at the time of his death.

The Ministry of Justice said that Luczak was found in her cell on Tuesday morning.

"Paramedics attended and she was pronounced dead at the scene," a spokesperson said, adding that the death will be the subject of a Prisons and Probation Ombudsman investigation.
