Theme park developers hoping to build a resort to rival Disney have bought their first 18 acres of land in Kent.

London Paramount has confirmed that it has completed the purchase of Bamber Pit, a former landfill site and Sports Ground in Swanscombe.

According to the company's website, this is the first outright purchase of land for the specific purpose of developing 'Entertainment Resort'.

The final site is expected to be spread over 545 acres, predominantly on the Swanscombe Peninsula

Plans for the land include a theme park, 1,500 seat theatre, an indoor conference space and a range of hotels among other things.

The resort, which is expected to host around 40,000 visitors a day, will have themed areas, rides and a number of other indoor and outdoor activities.

Similar to the Disney resorts, the park will also hold a 'Paramount and Friends Carnival' every afternoon while the park will host theatre productions in the evenings.

Speaking on behalf of London Paramount, David Testa said: "With this agreement in place, the vision for North Kent as the home of a nationally significant, multi-billion pound Entertainment Resort employing thousands of people is moving another step closer to becoming a reality. It further underlines our commitment to delivering the project and is welcome news as we continue to consult and engage with the local Dartford and Gravesham communities near the site and more widely with our interested parties."

The expected opening date for the Entertainment Resort is Easter 2020 with construction starting in Winter 2016.
