Jeff Bridges sells family home for $29.5 million
Actor Jeff Bridges is selling his 19.5-acre estate in Montecito, California, for $29.5 million (£19m).
The Bridges, who have been married for 38 year, bought the house in 1994 from musician Kenny Loggins, but are now selling up as their three daughters have grown up.
Built in 1988, the Tuscan farmhouse-style main house extends to 9,535 square feet. It's surrounded by roses and olive trees, and a small stream passes through the grounds.
"Villa Santa Lucia harkens back to the ducal grandeur of Tuscany," says agent Suzanne Perkins of Sotheby's International Realty.
"Tall cypress trees in the natural rolling landscape, the play of light on secluded stone terraces, the spectacular unending views to the ocean, utmost privacy, and the sophistication and regal bearing of the main residence underscore the charm, beauty and integrity of this magnificent Montecito estate."
There's a huge, hand-carved front door, which opens onto a double-story entry hall with gigantic stone columns. A sunken living room with oak floors and antique stone fireplace opens onto a terrace with stunning ocean views.
The kitchen, too opens onto its own terrace, and features a large island and a cheerful breakfast area - and there's also a pantry and large laundry room.
The master suite boasts herringbone parquet flooring and Murano glass chandeliers. There are three more bedroom suites on this level - and a study/meditation room above.
Outside, there's a four-car garage, a guest cottage and guest house, a groundskeeper's unit and a combined home theatre and music recording studio. There's a playhouse built for Bridges' children and a swimming pool fed by a stream, as well as a vineyard and orchid greenhouse - and Bridges' own collection of aloe trees.
"Jeff and his beloved aloe trees," wife Susan Bridges comments to the Wall Street Journal. "They look like Dr. Seuss plants and require very little water."
The house has been the family's main home, and Bridges recorded some of his own songs in its music studio. He's currently filming the action-thriller Comancheria.
