Tyre maker Goodyear has announced plans to close its only factory in the UK after 90 years, with all 330 staff set to lose their jobs.

The US company says it will move its operations abroad in a bid to "strengthen its competitiveness" in a "challenging environment and increased competition".

Wolverhampton MP Emma Reynolds has called on Goodyear to reconsider its decision, claiming the factory is still highly productive and profitable.

She added: "Generations of families have worked at the factory. This proposal is a serious blow to all those who work at the factory, their families and our city."

"I am demanding an urgent meeting with the company to establish exactly what their reasons are. My understanding is that the factory has high levels of productivity and is profitable."
