New Mini Clubman

The new Mini model range has a third addition in the form of the Mini Clubman compact estate.
Along with the new five-door Mini, the Clubman aims to increase the diminutive model's appeal amongst buyers with families, and will be the largest model offered until the debut of the Mini Countryman crossover next year.

In a nod to greater practicality, the new Clubman is larger than any previous version, and comes with two regular rear doors rather than the original's one-sided opening. It retains its van-like double-door arrangement in place of a rear hatch.

Like every model bearing the Mini badge, the Clubman copies its hatchback siblings' distinctive styling, including its round headlights and narrow windows. Buyers will be able to choose from 12 paint colours, while contrasting colours for the roof and door mirrors are offered as a no-cost option. As with the Mini hatchback, expect plenty of personalisation options for owners to really make the car their own.

The cabin also follows the established Mini theme, with a large central display, which now shows media and sat nav details rather than simply being a speedometer. It's driven by a version of BMW's iDrive controller, mounted on the centre console. Like the exterior, the cockpit will be customisable to individual tastes.

At launch, buyers will have a choice of three engines. The entry-level Cooper version is powered by a 134bhp, 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol motor, which gets the Clubman from 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds. The Cooper S is the most powerful version, boasting 189bhp from its 2.0-litre turbo engine, and provides junior hot hatch performance, getting from 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds. The diesel Cooper D also makes a return in the Clubman, with its 2.0-litre unit developing 148bhp and returning a claimed 68.9mpg.

The Mini Clubman range starts from £19,995, with range-topping Cooper S models available from £22,755. Order books are open now, with the first customer cars expected for delivery in the autumn.
