Flamingo in Brazil fitted with prosthetic leg
A flamingo in a zoo in Brazil has been fitted with a prosthetic leg .
A fracture meant the bird's leg had to be amputated in order to stop it getting infected.
The zoo's vets decided to have him fitted with a replacement false leg, which was made by local orthopaedic surgeons in Sao Paolo. The leg is made of carbon fibre with silicone ends.
This video shows that although the flamingo still limps a little, he's taken to it very quickly. The zookeepers say the operation has been deemed a success: the flamingo can even tuck his prosthetic leg under his wing when he goes to sleep.
Once he has fully adapted to it he'll be reintroduced to the group.
Heartwarming.
