A 27-year-old City trader from London has died on a stag holiday in the Mediterranean.

Marcin Kania was with a group of friends who hired a sailing boat in Spain's Balearic Islands.

Police said the group had been drinking and went swimming while sailing around the smallest of the islands, Formentera, near Ibiza.

The Evening Standard reports that the boat was moored off Cavall d´en Borras beach. Coastguards, local police and tourists joined the search for Kania after his friends realised he had not returned back to the boat.

His body was later found floating in the water around 700 yards from the beach.

The Daily Telegraph reports that he was pulled from the sea by the crew of a passing ship.

Lifeguards tried desperately to revive the Polish national but he was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Last month, two British men drowned at popular beauty spot the Blue Lagoon in Comino, Malta.

The men, both 35, got into difficulties. Members of the Armed Forces of Malta immediately attended the scene and assisted one of the men who was taken to the nearby town of Imgarr by private boat. The other was airlifted to hospital.

Malta police later said the pair had died.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman, said: "We can confirm the death of two British nationals in Malta."
