Brace of performance cars to debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood Festival of Speed

With the demise of the traditional British Motor Show, the Festival of Speed, held every year at Goodwood, has taken on the mantle of being home to the most exotic new machines to arrive in the coming year.
Making its European moving debut at at this year's show – which takes place from June 26 to 28, with the Moving Motor Show being held on June 25 – is the Lexus GS F; a fire-breathing sports saloon designed to beat the BMW M5 at its own game.

This sporty new model moves away from Lexus's traditional comfort-oriented values and instead packs a ferocious 470bhp 5.0-litre V8 – which, unusually does without a turbocharger, meaning that it should sound particularly fearsome.

Following on from the similarly rapid IS F sports saloon, this new model is set to show off its roadholding abilities on Goodwood's famous hillclimb course, with Toyota Gazoo Racing's Mike Conway behind the wheel.

Honed around the notorious Nurburgring circuit in Germany, this car should make mincemeat of the track at the West Sussex motorsport venue, with its reinforced body, sports suspension and 'torque vectoring differential', which helps it to transfer its substantial horsepower tally to the Tarmac. Also appearing at the show is the company's striking LFA supercar and the RC F GT3 competition car that has been racing in the German VLN endurance series.

A slightly smaller debutee is the Mini John Cooper Works, which sports the most powerful motor ever fitted to a road-going Mini, and will ferry show-goers up the hillclimb route, alongside a professional racing instructor – signifying the first time UK drivers have been able to get behind the wheel of this new model.

Also making its moving debut is the dramatic new Aston Martin Vantage GT12 – the company's most focused Vantage ever, packing a 592bhp 6.0-litre V12 motor and a lightweight chassis – which slots between Aston's road cars and track machines. Just 100 of these hardcore vehicles are set to be made, with all of these already snapped up by eager buyers.
