Woman falls down manhole in China (video)

The wince-inducing moment a woman fell down a manhole in China has been caught on camera.

The elderly pedestrian was casually strolling down the street when she stepped on a manhole - and it completely caved beneath her.

She's almost totally swallowed by the manhole, save for the tip of her head peeking out of the top.

Passersby rush to pull her out of the predicament and, according to the Daily Telegraph, she escaped with a few minor cuts and bruises to her legs, and possibly a dented ego.

The manhole was then cordoned off to prevent the same fate befalling another unsuspecting pedestrian wandering passed.

The incident occurred in the district of Guangxi in China.

Back in January, CCTV footage taken in Birmingham showed the moment an exploding manhole cover was hurled upwards, narrowly missing a young girl.

The images were released by West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service, and the video from a nearby shop in Warwick Road showed the manhole beginning to smoke as a family walk past with their toddler in tow, completely unaware of the drama about to unfold.

The explosion left a crater 3ft (1m) deep in the footpath, and firefighters who watched the footage said it had been a stroke of good fortune that nobody was hurt.
