Heathrow unveils singing luggage trolley for anniversary of Terminal 2
It looks like those lucky enough to be travelling through London's Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport this weekend might be in for the royal treatment.
A golden baggage trolley will be gracing the airport in celebration of the first birthday of Terminal 2: The Queen's Terminal and also for the Queen's official birthday.
The trolley was inspired by the Queen's opulent state carriages that she can be seen travelling in on special occasions.
Not only do lucky passengers get to have their luggage travel in royal style but when the trolley's handle is pressed down, God Save The Queen will ring out through the terminal.
A team of British designers hand crafted the trolley using the Queen's carriages, phanteons, broughams and barouches for inspiration.
The royal trolley will be on display in Heathrow's Terminal 2 for the duration of June to tie in with the Queen's official birthday next Saturday.
Heathrow's Chief Operating Officer, Normand Boivin, said: "Heathrow is a proudly British airport. Exactly one year ago today, Terminal 2 officially opened its doors. We wanted to commemorate this proud occasion by providing our passengers with an eccentric and quintessentially British addition to the terminal. We have a long association with Her Majesty that stretches right back to our beginnings when the Queen opened the first passenger terminal and we wanted to celebrate the birthday milestone with a symbol of this."
Since the opening of Terminal 2 in June last year, 12 million passengers have passed through and 10 million pieces of luggage have been pushed through the building.
The original Terminal 2 opened in 1955 and was Heathrow's first passenger terminal.
