Drivers have been left confused - and possibly a bit ticked off - after traffic cones that brought them to a standstill on a Newquay road got up and walked off.

Revellers, thought to be part of a stag do, have been blocking traffic and bouncing off car bonnets in the seaside resort in Cornwall outside the Hotel Victoria.

Many drivers were not amused at the antics, along with a number of pubs, including a Wetherspoons, who asked them to move along.

Onlooker Chris Woodfinden told the Mirror: "I saw these guys blocking the road including lying in the middle of it while the other 15 or so swayed across outside Wetherspoons.

"I don't think the guys sat in congested traffic thought it was much fun, neither did the door staff of Spoons who sent them packing, and that was only at 5pm."

However, some people did see the funny side. The Cornish Guardian reports that one motorist, Leanne King, posted on Facebook: "To be fair they were hilarious and quite polite to me when I tried to drive off."

The news comes just as it was reported that a ban on wearing mankinis in Newquay had contributed to a fall in anti-social behaviour.

The skimpy swimwear for men was made famous by comedy character Borat, and was often worn on stag dos in the town.

Police suggest the ban is helping to shed the town's raucous "Wild West" image. So now they just have to work on those human traffic cone costumes...
