More and more British sunworshippers are taking holidays in Croatia every year, lured not least by the country's incredible coastline and tiny islands.

While there are a few lovely sandy beaches here and there, most of this exquisite coastline is rocky and/or pebbly - but don't let the lack of sand put you off. The myriad beautiful inlets mean fewer crowds, the scenery is spectacular, and the water is wonderful for swimming in as it's crystal-clear.

With 1,800km of coastline to explore, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding somewhere to soak up the sun or take a dip. The beach at Zlatni Rat in Bol is perhaps the country's most famous (and certainly one of its most beautiful), with fine white pebbles stretching in to the sea against a backdrop of scented pine trees. Other lesser known beaches that are arguably just as impressive include Biograd Beach in Northern Dalmatia and Medulin in Istria.

For more inspiration, take a look at our slideshow below to see which of the Balkan beaches we've put in our top 15. Don't forget to let us know in the comments section if you think we've missed out your favourite and we'll add it.
