Skoda slashes up to £1,905 from Rapid Spaceback prices
The Skoda Rapid Spaceback has always been a model that majored on value, with prices starting at well under £15,000, however the Czech company has seen fit to slash prices dramatically, to keep this compact hatchback competitive against a raft of affordable rivals.
With between £1,290 and £1,905 cut from list prices the Rapid Spaceback is now available from £13,500 for the entry-level 1.2-litre petrol to £18,660 for the range-topping diesel. Three trim levels are available – S, SE Tech and SE Sport,
The cheapest model features a 89bhp turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol motor, which is punchy enough to power the Rapid to 62mph in a reasonable 11.2 seconds, with claimed economy standing at a strong 60.1mpg. Car tax should also set buyers back a meagre £20 per year.
The model which sees the greatest saving, though, is the 1.4 TSI 125 DSG SE Tech, which is now on sale at £16,390 – a drop of £1,905. With a turbocharged 1.4-litre motor under the bonnet this Rapid takes a brisk 8.9 seconds to accelerate to 62mph, though claimed economy is still impressive at 58.9mpg. Car tax will cost buyers just £30 every year.
Most economical of all, is the 89bhp 1.4-litre diesel, which can be bought from £15,300 upwards. This model returns an official fuel economy figure of 78.5mpg, meaning that trips to the petrol station should be few and far between, while CO2 emissions are low enough to secure free car tax.
Topping the range alongside an automatic version of the 1.4-litre diesel is the 113bhp 1.6-litre diesel, which powers the Rapid Spaceback to 62mph in 9.9 seconds and is capable of 67.3mpg. Prices for this model now start at £17,100 rising to £18,300.
