Worried passenger snaps photo of easyJet worker sticking tape on plane

An easyJet passenger has shared a photo of an airline worker sticking tape to an engine shell on social media site Reddit.

The worried traveller wrote: "Ladies and gentleman, we will depart just as soon as our mechanic finishes taping our engine back together."

The picture shows a man wearing a fluorescent jacket sticking the tape around the engine shell of an easyJet plane.

According to the Independent, Twitter user @adtomwood took the photo and wrote: "Always worrying when easyJet are duct taping the plane together :-s #finaldestination".

According to the Evening Standard, easyJet responded to the photo on Twitter and said: "Please be reassured that the duct tape in place as a result of some cosmetic work that is required to the aircraft paintwork.

"It is nothing structural and in no way compromises the safety of the aircraft."

The tape was identified as "high speed metallic tape".

An easyJet spokesperson told the Daily Mail: "The high speed metallic tape is in place as a result of some cosmetic work that is required to the aircraft paintwork,' the spokesperson said.

"It is nothing structural and in no way compromises the safety of the aircraft."

Last week, the shocking moment a plane passenger pulled off the protective layer of an aircraft window was uploaded to YouTube.

Eduardo Caram was waiting in his seat before his flight departed when he discovered the panel had become loose.

When he told a member of the cabin crew, they said it was not a problem.

Writing a comment on YouTube, Caram said: "I talked to the flight attendant and he said there was no problem because it is only a protection."

One YouTube user responded: "This protective window layer could frighten some passengers. Thank you! Now I know that its safe to fly like that".
