Police dash cam captures moment plane crashes onto highway

A deadly plane crash in Atlanta was captured on a police dash cam earlier this month.

The footage, released by the Chamblee Police Department, shows the six-seater Piper PA-32 aircraft flying at an angle along Interstate 285 as the police car is at a stop light.

According to Pix11, Greg Byrd, 53, and his two sons, Christopher, 27, and Phillip, 25, along with Christopher's fiancée, Jackie Kulzer, died in the crash. They were on their way to the University of Mississippi to see Mr Byrd's younger son Robert graduate.

The dash cam footage shows the small plane disappearing behind a tree line before a black cloud from what appears to be an explosion rises into the sky.

11alive reports that the police car speeds through traffic towards the crash.

An investigation into what caused the crash is underway but could take more than a year to complete.

In January, a seven-year-old girl walked away from a light plane crash that killed four people in Kentucky, USA.

The distraught girl left the Piper PA-34 plane wreckage and walked to a house where she told a resident that her parents had died in the crash.

The plane crash happened near popular tourist attraction Kentucky Lake after the light aircraft reported engine trouble and lost contact with air traffic controllers.

Speaking to NBC News, 71-year-old Larry Wilkins, who answered his door to the little girl said she was standing there barefooted and "bleeding pretty badly".

He said: "She told me that her mum and her dad were dead, and she was in a plane crash, and the plane was upside down."
