Police in China pulled over a six-seater bus - to find it crammed with 51 people.

Officers in the Guizhou province noticed the bus after it was seen driving dangerously slowly on one of the area's highways.

The workers were on their way to a construction site when they were found.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the combined weight of all the people meant the body of the minibus was almost touching the road.

Seats had been taken out to provide more standing space in a bid to get as many people in as possible.

The video shows 49 people getting out of the side of the vehicle, as well as the driver and a passenger in the front.

The Independent reports that the driver told police he had loaded that many people in the bus to save time.

He now faces a severe penalty for the traffic offence, and could be banned from driving.
