A British tourist has lost an eye after being shot by a Polish nightclub bouncer in a row over drinks prices.

Christian Lidster, 31, from Wales, was celebrating a friend's 30th birthday at the Hypnose Gentleman's Club, a lap-dancing club in Krakow, when he went to complain about the bar bill showing four drinks for £100.

But he was then set upon by a bouncer with an air gun, who shot him at point blank range, leaving him fleeing for his life.

Speaking to Wales Online, Christian said: "It looked like my eye had exploded. I just thought my head had blown up because it was so painful.

"There was blood everywhere and I was lucky to get out of there alive.

"I was taken to hospital where the doctors removed bullets from my chest, just below my throat, and my right eye.

"They've done their best to save my sight but I've been told there's nothing more they can do.

"They are going to give me a glass eye to replace damaged one. I'm gutted at losing my eye but am just going to have to live with it.

"It was meant to be a fun boys' weekend away but it turned into a nightmare."

Christian said they went into the bar, which they didn't realise was a strip club, after someone outside said it offered cheap drinks.

But when they saw the prices were anything but cheap, they complained. Two bouncers came over and started "kicking and punching" Christian. They paid the bill but were still attacked.

According to the Mirror, Christian added: "I got shot as we ran upstairs to the main entrance door. One of the bouncers pulled out a gun and shot me twice.

"Dale dragged me out of the club and we got a taxi to the nearest hospital with the help of two girls who spoke English.

"The doctors removed the bullets from my eye and chest. They were lightweight handgun bullets but there's no doubt they could have killed me. "

Police said tourist overcharging scams are common in the city, which is visited by 600,000 tourists every year.

The unnamed bouncer, 38, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He is due to appear in court in Krakov.

Christian spent six days in hospital when he returned to Britain, but doctors could not save his eye.
