Everyone knows that we all rely on our phones to make notes, arrange meetings and generally organise our day-to-day lives, but now you can also use it to ensure you have a hassle-free holiday.

A whole host of holiday based apps have been released to ensure that your holiday is an organisational dream.

So whether you're looking for an app to help you combat jet lag, work out how much that 'bargain' trinket really is or even if you need some help with your packing, there is an app for everything now.

We've put together a list of the best apps to download before you jet off.

1. Doodle

Doodle gives you the chance to coordinate your calendars with your holiday group. You can find out which dates work for everyone using a poll. The best thing about this app is that other members of your group don't need to have the app for it to work. Once everyone has voted, the app will collate the results, work out which dates are most popular and send them through to the organiser. (Free for iOS)

2. Skyscanner

Fancy booking an impromptu holiday while you're on-the-go? The Skyscanner app lets you book cheap flights wherever you are, aggregating prices from various airlines and travel sites to make sure you get the cheapest deal. A fun new feature also means you can check out the cheapest locations around the globe at that moment. (Free for iOS and Android)

3. Momondo Places

Momondo Places inspires users when planning their travels and when on the go. Originally a popular free app available on the iPad, the new iPhone app now provides insight into the best sights, hidden gems, markets, boutiques, restaurants, cafés, bars and hotels on the phone, for eleven of the world's greatest cities (Copenhagen, London, Moscow, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon, New York, Paris and Rome) with more to come in 2015. Each city guide features more than 200 unique tips, all matched to the app's six distinct moods – Romantic, Social, Family, Local, Cultural and Fancy. (Free for iOS)

4. XE Currency

However good you are at mental arithmetic we all struggle to work out the exchange rate while we're enjoying ourselves on holiday. XE Currency gets rid of that stress by automatically calculating conversions for you and emailing free updates on currency rates. Just give your phone a shake to update the figures and make sure you're never missing out. (Free for iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows)

5. PackPoint

Do you always have a last-minute packing panic? PackPoint will solve your problems. All you have to do is put in your destination, how long you'll be there for and your departure information. PackPoint will then tell you what you should pack based on the weather, the activities you're taking part in and how long you'll be away. (£2.99 for iOS and Android)

6. GateGuru

Trying to find your way around an airport you've never been to before can be a nightmare. You don't know which way you're going, you can't find somewhere to eat and you have no idea where your flight takes off from. GateGuru does all of this for you and more. The app will take you directly to your gate while keeping you up-to-date of any delays and will even point out the best restaurants and duty free options along the way. (Free for iOS, Android and Windows)

7. Jet Lag App

Jet lag can ruin the start of a great holiday, leaving your body clock out of sync and you exhausted. This app will give your body the chance to prepare for the change in time zone if you add your departure and arrival information. The app will then provide you with advice, specific to your trip, to help you avoid missing out on the best bits of your holiday. (Free for iOS)
