Enraged gorilla cracks enclosure window at zoo (video)

A silverback gorilla cracked the shatter-proof window of its zoo enclosure when it charged at tourists including a little girl who was beating her chest and making noises at the animals.

The 20-year-old male, named Kigito, was filmed charging the glass partition at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium by the Cave family.

Zoo officials assured tourists that there was no danger as the glass is too strong to break through.

Visitor Kevin Cave, who was with his wife and two daughters, told Omaha.com: "He was just staring at me. I said, 'He's going to do something crazy.'"

The video was uploaded on YouTube and has been viewed over seven million times.

Dan Cassidy, general curator at the zoo, told PIX11: "One of the ways that they display for each other is to pound on the walls, bang on their chests or run at each other... it's better for an animal to make a display than to actually physically fight the other one."

Last year, a gorilla at Berlin Zoo showed a group of Irish tourists exactly what he thought of them - by throwing a rock directly at them.

The tourists were taking a video of the gorilla, marvelling at how "impressive" he was, before he suddenly turned around and angrily lunged a rock at them.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by Stefan Nolan, who wrote: "My friends and I took a trip to Berlin Zoo to pass the time while waiting for our flight home to Ireland.

"Apparently gorillas aren't a fan of the Irish..."
