Police are searching for a train passenger who did a poo in the middle of a carriage - causing the service to be cancelled.

Passengers on the London Midland service from Lichfield Trent Valley to Longbridge had to disembark at Birmingham New Street station while some poor soul cleaned up the mess.

The service resumed one hour after the incident occurred.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, passenger Christopher Talbot, who discovered the excrement, said: "I got on the 7.24 train from Sutton Coldfield and got into the last carriage.

"As I sat down I saw a newspaper on the floor. I leaned over and noticed there was something inside it."

"It looked like poo basically."

He added: "The smell was going through the carriage. These trains have toilets on!"

According to the Metro, a train spokesman said: "The 7.50am from Lichfield Trent Valley was terminated at Birmingham New Street after an act of vandalism.

"It was necessary for the train to be cleaned before we could continue to let passengers onto the service.

"I would like to apologise to our genuine passengers who experienced disruption this morning."
