Something you don't want to feel when you go to open your car door: huge hairy spider legs under the handle.

That's exactly what happened to Australian Stephen Wilson, who found a massive huntsman spider hiding in his car door handle on Thursday, reports the Mirror.

According to 9 News, he said: "When l put my hand under the door handle something felt soft and furry and l thought 'oh my God, that's not right.'

"So l went back into the pub grabbed a can of surface spray and, well, you saw the video."

The footage shows large legs intermittently poking out, before the spider - thought to be around 10cm - drops out.

Stephen, who owns the Grand Central Hotel in Victoria's Wangaratta, can be heard saying: "That's the creepiest thing ever. It's a bloody super-spider!"

Stephen uploaded the video to his Facebook page with the title: "Nothing worse than opening your car door and feeling something furry."

Huntsman spiders use venom to immobilise prey and to assist in digestion.

They have been known to inflict defensive bites, but are not widely regarded as dangerous to healthy humans.

Huntsman spiders are actually widely considered beneficial in Australia because they feed on insect pests such as cockroaches.
