After a wet and cloudy start to Easter, Sunday and Monday are set to be sunny and mild, weather forecasters have predicted.

Some areas could even see temperatures of up to 18C.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "By Monday it will be a lot brighter. But by Sunday the sun may be slightly stronger than usually expected for this time of the year.

"So it is worth taking steps to ensure that you enjoy the sunshine safely, particularly as your skin may not be acclimatised to sunshine after the long winter months."

North West Scotland, Eastern England and the South East can expect rain outbreaks of rain on Saturday before it turns drier.

The Met Office says the heaviest rain will be in Cumbria and Lancashire, while temperatures will remain around 11C in the South East but feel slightly cooler in further north.

After mild weather on Easter Sunday and Monday, "more unsettled weather will spread into the north west as we head into next weekend bringing with it rain and stronger winds," Mr Burkill told the Daily Mirror.

Meanwhile, Leon Brown at The Weather Channel says: "From Saturday onwards Central and Southern Britain will be dry, but a weak warm front passing the North may give some light rain over Scotland for a time before the North too joins the dry theme.

"Temperatures will recover to around the normal for early April, but in the sunshine it will feel quite pleasant."

For next week, Mr Brown says temperatures by day will be a few degrees above normal over the West but cooler near the East coast.

On Friday, British travellers heading to Dubai for the Easter bank holiday weekend were warned that flights could be affected by a huge sandstorm.

The massive sandstorm hit the Gulf on Thursday, leading to 12 departures and nine arrivals being cancelled at Dubai's main airport.

Most were regional flights, and British Airways and Emirates so far have only reported small delays.
