A family has caught footage of a large shark right at the shoreline of Bonita Beach in Florida.

They were cooling off in the sea when they spotted what they first thought was a dolphin.

They soon realised it was actually a rather big shark, and jumped out of the water immediately.

The family sent the footage to Wink News, who then showed it to other beachgoers.

Kristy Storm, who was visiting Bonita Beach with her family, said: "That is a big shark.

"I would not want to be out there and that is why I don't go out there; I visit from the chair."

In the past two weeks, a boat captain with Bonita Springs Fishing says he has seen dozens of sharks in the water, and has caught and released around 10 that were 5ft to 7ft long.

Boating captains believe the sharks being attracted to the warm waters to eat as well as mate.
