Safari tourist survives attack by lion that jumped through window
An Australian tourist on holiday in South Africa was attacked by a lion while on safari.
Brendan Smith, from Perth, was mauled by a lion just 36 hours after arriving in the popular safari destination on holiday.
Writing on his Facebook page, Brendan said: "I wish I was LION but can now say I have life access to the people who have been mauled by a lion group. No later than 36 hours after touching down in Africa I find myself in hospital after a lion jumped through the car window and decided to go to town on my legs.
"Pretty full on but am alive, with insurance coming to the party and an influx of curious Africans wanting to see 'the lion man'. Could have and should have been a lot worse but chicks dig scars so I'll be sweet!"
According to the Daily Mail, Smith was taken to Johannesburg's Fourways Life Hospital.
He posted photos of the deep wounds to his legs and a photo of two lionesses, but it is not clear whether these are the lions which attacked him.
His friends posted messages to the tourist, with one writing: "Blimey Brendan you certainly are like Indiana Jones! Hope you heal quickly with no lasting effects. Sending you big hugs."
Another asked: "Why was the window open? Hope your ok mate".
Yahoo reports that Brendan was planning a shark dive as part of his trip but is likely to be cutting his holiday short after the attack.
