Man goes for pint in Middlesborough and ends up in Thailand

A man that went for a simple night out at a pub in Middlesborough found himself on a holiday in Thailand by the next morning.

Phillip Boyle, 33, had gone for a few "quiet" drinks with his friend Jamie Blyth, but after pulling an all-nighter ended up in Thailand the next day.

Speaking to the Gazette Live, Phillip, a company director from Nunthorpe, said: "We'd been to The Southern Cross in Marton

"We decided on not going out for a crazy night but to buy a few drinks from the petrol station and go to my house for a quiet night.

"We then went back to my house by about 1am and just sort of sat there."

Jamie then had the bright idea that the pair jetted off to Thailand to join a group of other lads on holiday.

Phillip added: "I thought he was joking at first and then he pointed out how there are quite a few lads from Middlesbrough over there we hadn't seen for a while.

"Then we got into a taxi he'd phoned and - apart from the short delay of picking up Jamie's passport - we were off to Manchester Airport.

"When we got in the taxi we didn't even have flights.

"It's a last minute bad idea - but one of those bad ideas that turns into a good idea."

According to the Metro, the only thing Phillip took was a Tesco carrier bag with some T-shirts and underwear in it.

The Mirror reports that they are due back to the UK on Tuesday, and Phillip said: "I'd never fancied Thailand before - so going last minute for a few days is perfect.

"We're by the pool and out to complete our version of The Hangover."
