A woman has been given a police caution for child neglect after leaving her toddler alone at night in a hotel room.

A judge said the woman, in her early 30s, left the 16-month-old girl at an Ibis hotel at around 7.30pm to meet a friend.

The Daily Echo reports that concerned hotel staff heard the toddler and called the police.

When she returned to the hotel with a man at 2am, the woman was arrested and accepted a caution by police. Her daughter was taken into police protection.

Details of the case emerged as a judge made a ruling on a family court dispute between the toddler's parents.

The Daily Mail reports that the woman was involved in a legal fight with the girl's English father.

The toddler was placed with her father following her mother's arrest. The judge ruled against the woman taking the child to Mexico.

In February, a woman left her two children aged 10 and 13 home alone to go on a three-week holiday abroad for a family wedding.

The mother, who lives in Greater Manchester, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of child neglect when she returned from the trip to Nigeria.

When police visited the family home in Salford, they found that the children were left without food or heat. They continued to go to school while their mum was away.

It is believed she intended to return to the UK later in February but came back early when she was alerted that police were investigating her children being alone.
