Kate Middleton visits Turner Contemporary in Margate
The Duchess of Cambridge will visit one of the UK's leading art galleries today (Wednesday), meeting artists whose work is exhibited there, as well as members of the community.
The Duchess will view the Self: Image and Identity exhibition at the Turner Contemporary in Margate, Kent. The seafront gallery houses the last self-portrait by Sir Anthony Van Dyck, which was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery through a public appeal with The Art Fund.
She will also tour the gallery and meet artists whose works are in the exhibition, as well as school children who are involved in an art project and a group of young women who have been working with local artist Felicity Allen, a spokeswoman for the royal said. WORDS: PA.
The Duchess, who is the patron of the National Portrait Gallery, will also view the exhibition Mr Lion 14 by Blank Canvas, Turner Contemporary's inter-generational community group.
The Turner Contemporary, which opened in 2011 and has welcomed more than 1.4 million visitors, has displayed work by artists including Carl Andre, John Constable, Tracey Emin, Piet Mondrian, Auguste Rodin, JMW Turner and Edmund de Waal.
The Duchess will also visit an exhibition at the Resort Studios in Cliftonville, Margate, featuring photomontages of local personalities to meet the artists in residence and hear about their work, the spokeswoman said.
She will tour the print studio, project space and more general workspaces of the arts organisation which encourages experimentation and collaboration in an inspiring, professional and supportive environment, she said.
