BA plane returns to Heathrow for emergency landing after 'mid-air glitch'

A British Airways plane bound for Seattle was forced to return to Heathrow 60 minutes into its flight on Friday.

The plane was reportedly in airspace over Scotland when the pilot found a problem with the oxygen supply in the cabin.

The Daily Mail reports that the plane took a detour over the Irish Sea to dump fuel before returning to London with its 218 passengers and 14 crew members.

The plane had taken off at 2.30pm and landed safely back at Heathrow at 5pm.

According to the Standard, a BA spokesman said on Friday: "The aircraft is returning to Heathrow Airport as a precaution due to a suspected technical problem. Our pilots are highly trained to deal with these scenarios."

The crew reportedly made the decision to turn back just north west of Edinburgh, reports the Daily Telegraph.


A number of people took to Twitter to say they'd spotted the plane.

And to give updates on its progress.

It is believed a replacement jet saw the passengers continue with their journey on Friday night.
