A scaffolding has collapsed onto a double decker bus in a busy high street in Peckham, London.

The structure and a section of wall fell onto the route 345 bus, which was in service, at around 11.5am on Monday morning.

TFL Traffic News wrote on Twitter: "A202 Peckham Rd is blocked E/B nr Rye Lane due to dangerous scaffolding. Traffic being controlled past the scene."

According to the London Fire Brigade, it was a "miracle" nobody was hurt in the incident, with the bus preventing the wall collapsing onto the street and possibly pedestrians below.

An LFB tweet said: "Miracle! No one injured as scaffolding collapses onto a bus on #Peckham High Street. We've now made the scene safe."

According to the IB Times, a fire spokesman said: "We were called at 11.15 to reports of scaffolding which had fallen on to a bus and a wall collapse in Peckham Road. A section of scaffolding had collapsed on to a bus and street furniture."

Speaking to the Standard, Ken Davidson, head of bus operations at Transport for London, said: "At around 11am this morning some scaffolding collapsed on a route 345 bus as it was driving down Peckham High St, at the junction with Basingcourt.

"The bus was in service at the time and there have been no reports of injuries. We will work with the emergency services who will be investigating this incident."
